Meko
Lawson - Youth Programming and Outreach Advisor
Meko Lawson is the president of the Professional Women
of Color Network, a networking group she began out of
a desire to create an organization that facilitates
and encourages strategic business relationships among
all women of color.
Meko, who attended the University of Washington, is
highly committed to the empowerment of women everywhere.
She began working with young women as a volunteer in
local middle & high schools and led several workshops
for young women.
Seeing the enormous connection between esteem and success
for young women, Meko founded the Young Women’s
Institute. The Young Women’s Institute fosters
a strong sense of self-esteem, strength and sisterhood
in young women through empowerment programs, job readiness
mentoring and outreach.
Meko recognizes the importance of exposing young people
to the arts and is pleased to join the VAF Board in
the capacity of Youth Programming and Outreach because
she knows our children truly are the future!
Meko Lawson is a native of Seattle, WA where she
resides with her beautiful children; (Malia, Milan,
Malik and Maiz), her loving husband, Martin and enormous
puppy Mieko.
